Maria Fisher Foundation

The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do”- Sara Ban Breathnach

The Maria Fisher Foundation is a charity that supports different avenues of kindness.  We support the Maria P. Fisher Memorial Scholarship for Kindness and Creativity, as well as other organizations such as Girls on the Run of Lancaster and the Water Street Rescue Mission.

The foundation was founded to honor Maria Fisher, who radiated kindness in her 18 years of life.  Her kind heart inspired those who came into her path.  Maria had a passion for life.  She loved people, music, art, writing, soccer, traveling and above all…her family and friends.  She just knew when a kind word or act was needed to bring a smile to someone’s face.   A true optimist, she believed that she had the ability to help anyone and everyone.   Inclusion is something she aspired to promote.  She wanted everyone to feel important no matter their strengths or weaknesses.  This led to her passion to recognize those inspired by art and music. Maria always wanted to have a performing arts school, or at least a venue to allow young adults to perform and celebrate their work and talents.  One of Maria’s favorite songs was “Follow Your Arrow” by Kasey Musgraves.

Maria was a freshman at the University of Maryland when she was fatally struck by a car in front of the university while crossing the highway.  During her short 6 weeks at The University of Maryland, she became immediately involved in helping others through fundraising for children with cancer and research to help with addiction.  Addiction issues hit close to home for Maria, having a family member suffering from addiction.   Even at a very young age, she poured her sad moments into preventing “out-clusion” and also into her music, writing and recording her own songs.  She wanted others to feel that they were not alone in their life struggles.

The Maria Fisher Foundation allows Maria’s passion for kindness and compassion, her beautiful spirit and her wisdom beyond her years to shine through us.

We don’t have the power to choose where we come from, but we can choose where we go from there” – Maria’s favorite quote “ever” from “Perks of Being a Wallflower”

A friend described me as optimistic.  I laughed, because I thought… Well, how can that be true?  I’m a tired person.  I’m scary and damaged.  I’m dark and twisty.  So, how is this possible?  I am.  I don’t know how or why, but I see something not many others see.  I can find the good in people.  I have a theory that there is no such thing as a bad person.  Maybe, I’m wrong…But, I believe in good.  And, God is a main belief of mine, the biggest.  He has influenced my life greater than anyone or anything” – Maria P. Fisher
